Louth Badminton Association

The recent bad spell of weather affected a number of events for the county. The annual tournaments have been rescheduled to run between the 8th and the 14th of February, with the finals being on the Saturday and Sunday. Closing date for entries is the 3rd of February, more details are available from each club secretary, entry forms are attached.

The Jimmy Martin Badminton League took place over the last week in the Dundalk Badminton Club premises on the Ramparts. This league is designed and run for top players in Louth who do not have division 3 and above league teams to hone their match fitness. On Wednesday night the semi-finals were played, with the top two teams qualifying for the final. The first finalist, Team C, consisting of George McKeague (Dundalk BC), Liam O'Leary (Dundalk BC), Mark Stacey (Phoenix BC) and Michelle McCourt (Dundalk BC) competed against the other finalist team, Team B, of Marty McGoldrick (Bessbrook BC), Philip Cassidy (Dundalk BC), Roger Smyth (Dundalk BC) and Deirdre Duffy (Phoenix BC). McGoldrick's team came out the strong winner, with pairings Cassidy and Smyth beating O'Leary and Stacey, McGoldrick and Duffy beating McKeague and McCourt, Cassidy and McGoldrick beating McKeague and Stacey, O'Leary and McCourt were the only partners to score points for Team C, beating Smyth and Duffy.
